so yeah, where have i been? well the shortest story is wickedly medicated, about 20 doctors, an ER visit or two, a little bit of unsolicited observation, and now i have the pleasure of getting brain surgery on april 2nd. yeah. lots of shit. The Wrestler

Lately I have been captured by different images. Mist at the foot of the Rocky Mountains, a wagging tail from a happy dog, a flag, pretty hair, certain pictures sticking out, irreplacable, seemingly entiwned with the way the world is supposed to work.

Starring Mickey Rourke as a former super star wrestler now fallen from cheering glory, The Wrestler is an expose of lonelieness in a hard world. After a particular trauma removes him from the wring, Randy The Ram (Rourke) pursues a reconnection with an abandoned daughter and and tries to kindle a flame with new love.

What I saw most in the movie was amazing cinematography. The camera work was not only creative but it was inviting. As much as the story was stirring the filming brought me close to the story leaving lasting images in my mind. The frustrations felt by The Ram were more acute and his redemption more painful because of the work behind the scenes.

There is some graphic images in this movie so it isn't really for children. I put this movies images right up there with Requiem For A Dream and Pi. Maybe because The Wrestler shares the same director as these other two movies, Darin Aronofsky knows how to put a film together. And it is good.

It's Just Criminal.

So why did you pick the criminal you did?

Martha Stewart... the only chick that can go to jail and STILL have her own TV show.
Grahame T. 10/27/09
I picked mine because, well, I haven't changed my icon in months.

Although Rorschach did get arrested.

Elite Ruler's Decrees for 10/23/09

*All apes and Gorilla and their Monkey Cousins are freed. from now and forever moer unless they desire to be caught up again.

*The theme for today is your favorite criminal - from Bonnie or Clyde to your rum runner Uncle - just put up a pic and get it covered!

*Try to email or write at least one of your congressmen(or woman) this weekend. Tell em what you think about how they are doing and where you want this crazy f*ing boat to go.

*Being as that i don't think i can rule as i should - or maybe this is exactly as rulership should be - i cede all power back to the people of Sazze, granting them the wherewithal to never be under the authority of someone or something they don't agree with. I resign.

That is all. Adios.

Talk to Me About What is Important to You

Hey Friendos, i just had to work on an account for a person who was pulling all of their policies from my company because their homeowners insurance policy was canceled. So i have a question for you, what makes insurance valuable to you? Why have you chosen the company you are with? What is important when considering companies and products? i have been put in a semi-important/still small role in figuring out what builds value into health insurance policies and would love to know what you think of insurance in general and you can also chime in with stories about any time insurance worked for you or didn't work. Let me know yo! Glad in advance for your inestimablly valuable information.

I think Patrick has nailed some of my core concerns about insurance. When it comes to auto insurance, renters insurance, etc., I'm ok with being shafted a bit. Not that it's right, I'm just used to it. The free market has actually kept them in decent amount of check, with a decent amount of competition in the market. I do not like the fact that it is state/federal law to require insurance. It got out of hand to the point where they create silly rules, and push through silly laws. In many states, the insurance co.'s and the states seem to be in collusion. They make money for each other.

The medical insurance game though, the only way that will get fixed is with a public option. I'm worried with Congress working on this, because so far they've taken some elements that are crucial for the public option to work, won't work without it, and haven't tossed in the public option itself. That will be a disaster.

Let me try to distill some bullets out of all the great info ya'll have given:

~ i read in one of PM's earlier notes that some return of premium would be nice - similar to dividends (which in the case of a mutual company like i work for are actually a return of premium) on life insurance policies - so for med insurance a return of premium beyond what was necessary to pay people, cover cost of operations, and pay claims.

~ there is too much confusion in the way policies work and not just that but also in how premiums are calculated and how claims are paid.

~ state regulation has failed allowing Rx companies and Med Costs to essentially fall into bed with Ins Co's thus producing a cost spiral that continues to grow

~ because the common person (us) can not keep of with this spiral (who really could) it is in the best interests of the people to have a more non profit system in place, either companies being 4013c status or having them be run by the government in the hopes there will be more transperancy and improved cost to consumer ratios

~ Yes T, your auto insurance premiums should go down (a slight bit) at 25 the real drop is for men, sorry but we get punished for testosterone until we are 25

** to give a little more back ground, i work for a mutual company so we have no share holders to impress other than policy holders. we have no stocks that can be bought. also, we are not really invested in the stock market - 98% of our investment is in the government bond market - it's really low growth but it is the most stable you can have. i can attest to my CEO's salary - i won't divulge exactly how much it is but it is in the bottom 5 (as in number not percent) CEO salaries of fortune 500 companies. granted he get's bonuses but not like AIG, our Co really tries to run on the up and up**

any insurance questions i am here, any more points to add to the list i am here, i really love the feedback!

The Hardest Way to Make an Easy Living by The Streets (UK)

Mike Skinner talks to me and as the voice behind the musical project 'The Streets' to hear his voice means on multiple albums means i get spoken to quite a good deal. Skinner is the reason i say cheers though I am not close to the UK or their former territories that gained liberty long after the US. (Well Skinner and that lovely dove working the door at that Toronto bar but that is a different story.)

On The Hardest Way to Make an Easy Living we get the smooth as brandy flow that Skinner throws out every time he touches a mic. Tight Brit rhymes are what you get, smooth action beats, and lubricated grooves. This album is great for the dance hall and the street, rolling in a more propper way, no collars popped in this ride. Mike Skinner puts words together with the soul of a man scene the ups and downs of life. This is a great album for the rap/rhyme/hip hop crew and is a true enjoyment.

Patrick M. 10/14/09
Yeah... I'm sure of that....

:: backing away slowly ::

I also have a real question...

Allright friends and interwebs allstars i need angles and opinions:

i was just talking with my mom about some current stresses both her family unit - Her, My Stepdad, two dogs and two cats - and my family unit - Me, my girlfriend Amber, and two dogs - are going through.

We have very common struggles, and i am sure common struggles for many. My stepdad has ALS and while he has health insurance we all know life is more than just going to the doctor. He used to contribute to their household budget and now he can't. While i don't have ALS, i too have a nerve disorder. The docs aren't sure if i have a peripheral neuropathy or if it is a more localized case like trigeminal neuralgia. unlike my stepdad i am still able to work, at least for now.

so here's the rub - Amber and i have lived on our own (and by on our own i mean living together on our own, we have been out of our respective parents houses since we were 18 and 17) for three and a half years now and after talking to my mom i think i should at least field out the idea of moving in with my parents to help them with expenses. we would be giving up a lot of creature comforts: space, a fenced yard, our own garage, privacy. However we would be helping my parents in a real sense, i think we would be coming together like a family should.

so i need help! bombard me with quetions, concerns, ideas! help me think this through, we have some smart folks here with different opinions. by the way, ya'll kick ass.

Ressurecting - -

Talked to Amber, she seems not only understanding but excited to move forward with moving in to help my parents out. i am always impressed with her but right now i am extra impressed, she rocks. so yeah, next step is to present the idea to my parents and see what they say.

cheers

All i gotta say is ask 1000 fellas

Jarrod R. 10/14/09
@dereky surprisingly i think so, you bring a potential partner back to your abode and they dig the way it is kept up and i think that is a minor turn on, i mean maybe not like barry white but maybe as good as chocolate
