Classic, classic, classic! I still own my copy from my own childhood. It is tattered and well loved and I know I will read it to my children. My boyfriend told me it was one of his favorite books growing up, so when he got sick we pulled it out and I read it to him. It still had the same effect, he loved it and it made him feel better. Books like this stay around for a reason! It is imaginative, creative, and fun. The illustrations are wonderful and Max definitely reminds us all of ourselves a bit. Read this book to your kids or even buy a copy for yourself.

I remember this book since I first read it to my oldest daughter...back in the day...then her teacher gave her the book! I remember reading it over, and over and over. the book finally wore out. Then one of my sons discovered it, and he put me through the same thing. I used to think it was funny, but kind of weird , but of course the more and more I read it, I thought...this guy has such an imagination! Then they came out with a program of it on TV. So "Where the Wild Things Are", has been around all my kids for along time. I think I'm going to go try to dig it out of our old "Book Box" and see how my 3 1/2 yr old granddaughter likes it. Good books for kids stick around for generations. This is one of them.

I hated this book when I was little. Maurice Sendak was too grotesque for me (and have you seen the trippy work about the chef?)
Once I had kids, I had to revisit it. My kids love horror and scariness and so were in love with this book. As a parent, I was surprised at how accurate the book was about kids. The kid Max in the book is exactly like my son. No wonder that this is one of my son's favorites, as he imagines his monstrous self being transported to an aisle where he is king of the beasts. It is a joyous celebration of the wildness of childhood.

This is a really amazing and truly remarkable book. The language is simple and the story is basic, but there is just something about it that's so deep and meaningful. Little kids like it because the story tells of a rebellious young boy and his wild and exciting adventure. The pictures are so imaginative and playful, and the settings are vivid and truly believable, even though they're fictitious. Adults like it because, well, most of us probably loved it when we were growing up. So many memories! Most of us probably tried to imitate the big monsters. Most of us probably will or have read this book to our children. I really hope it's one of those classics that keeps getting passed down.

You know a book has got to be good if it stays successful over multiple generations.

I had this book read to me, and read this book multiple times as a child, and I absolutely loved it.

The writing and the illustrations really work phenomenally together and work to entrance a reader(watcher) no matter what age group. It's a great book to add to your collection if you are expecting a child, already have a child, or even if you have no children! Adults can like it too!

The book was written in 1963 and is still a great read in 2008. Timelessness is a great quality to have in a book and I think it will always be a classic.

This is a highly imaginative book by Maurice Sendak. Sendak is a wonderful children's book author. I suggest almost all of his stories to adults and children alike.

I used to be part of an acting troupe that would tour inner city schools presenting literature as theatre pieces. We did an entire show on Maurice Sendak with Where the Wild Things Are as the finally. Kids were always enthralled with the big monsters and spunky hero Max.

Max, when confined to his room for misbehaving, imagines that he sails away to a secret island where the wild things live and makes himself the King. He discovers that he is hungry and makes his way home again to find his dinner waiting. This is significant because it teaches kids that home is where the heart is, no matter how much fun it is to go away.

The illustrations are phenomenal!! Buy this book!

Oh the adventure in this book, full of at first very scary monsters and yourself placed vicariously in the main character's monster suit to roar aloud either by yourself or with a parent or friend who read it aloud to you. I loved it as a child and still love it today. The illustration was exceptional -- really different from most children's books. It also teaches kids to leave the shores of their own comfort zones and take on fears to be able to learn new things. Hmm... maybe it should be required reading for adults, too; like a "Who Moved My Cheese" corporate rewrite.
