This is my favorite mascara, and has been for more years than most of y'all have been alive. It's cheap, it works well, it doesn't clump, it doesn't smear, it doesn't give me eye infections ... it does everything it's supposed to do, and a lot of things that other (far more expensive) mascaras don't do. I always go with "very black," because my lashes are fairly non-existent and I need all the help I can get! It's literally been decades since I've bought anything other than this product -- if that isn't enough of a recommendation, I don't know what else to say!

This mascara has been in my makeup bag since I was in junior high. You can't beat the tried and true Great Lash!! SInce I can remember I've used this mascara. I've tried the expensive ones and the ones in cool bottles. Yep, all the ones that claim they lengthen, separate, nourish, do your dishes and babysit. None work like this cost efficient brand. Oh, and absolutely this washable version as the waterproof one will stay on until you've been six feet under for 4 scores! If you are a label person, I suggest you get this and disguise it cause you'll never get the same results from any other brand ; )
This is a classic, tried and true and I absolutely LOVE it! It lengthens as well as thickens and it gives you the look of wearing fake eyelashes. It stays on all day and night and does not need to be reapplied, ever. Definately a product that is a must have.
Every make up artist I know carries this on their belt. It's pink and green exterior has become a symbol for mascaras everywhere... it is THE mascara. Classic, dependable, affordable, and practically a fixture in beauty magazines and photo shoots, it's been around for decades and will probably be around for many decades more.
Maybelline Great Lash is a perfect example of the mantra, "if you've got a good thing, why change it?" Mac and Dior and Chanel promise glamour and lush lashes for more dollars with their versions, but customers always seem to be drawn to this simple drugstore classic.
I can attest to this. I have a whole assortment of expensive mascaras, but daily I tend to turn to Great Lash in Royal Navy (it really makes my eyes pop!).

Maybelline Great Lash Washable Mascara in Very Black is the least expensive and least negotiable item in my makeup case. Sure, I have strayed and forayed with trendy or prominent mascara brands from department stores but I always come back to Great Lash.
Warming the mascara tube for a few seconds under hot water or with a blast from my blow dryer makes it glide on smoothly and easier to layer. Great lash will stay on all day, never irritates my eyes and washes away easily with plain soap at night. And it even looks sexy if you accidentally rub your eyes or cry a little during a sad movie.

Have you ever noticed how make-up artists are always name-checking Maybelline mascara? Seriously, they'll be like, "I use Chanel brushes, MAC eyeshadow, Nars lipgloss...and Maybelline mascara." It's just that good. Lately I've tried branching out into the more hoity-toity Maybelline mascaras, but honestly I'm not that impressed. I miss my reliable Great Lash washable mascara, and as soon as I finish the tube of other stuff I have, I'm going back to basics. This is a great product--the color is true, the wand defines the eyelashes and lengthens them, and it doesn't make you look like a raccoon once you wash it off. AND it's affordable, in a world where makeup is getting more and more expensive.
There is a reason Maybelline Great Lash is a standard for make-up artists. It's the formula. I have never seen such a great all around lash volumizer and lengthener the whole time I've been wearing makeup. I think the reason some people don't like it is the brush it comes with leaves a lot to be desired. It's a bit small and wimpy, and tends to not coat the lashes evenly. What I did was take a brush from macara I liked before, and use it in this formula. Voila! Really great lashes. So great, you really don't even need eyeliner. Love it! Recommend it!
