Monopoly was one of my favorite board games as a kid and will always be a classic in my book. I still like it but I just never feel like I have time to play.

I think this board game is over-rated. It is gets boring very fast, and anyone that has played it more than a few times knows exactly which Monopolies are the best to have. There isn't a lot of strategy, and it takes way too long to finish. Overall it is a classic that everyone should play a few times, but it is not the best board game by a long shot.

If you have a long wait ahead of you and there is nothing else to do Monopoly can pass the time away. The premise is simple, gain properties and make your competitors go bankrupt and earn money. Its about greed and earning money as fast as possible.

The game is very tedious and gets slow at some points. If you are playing with players who don't like to trade this game is very hard and very tedious in every way. When you don't trade in this game buying houses and hotels becomes very hard and you end up trying your hardest to make everyone go bankrupt in difficult ways.

It is fun in the beginning. Everyone is buying properties and you can't really go wrong with anything. There are alot of rules that you need to follow but once you do it can get pretty interesting.

Ah what a classic. MONOPOLY!!! Yes everything you here about it is true... its extremely long... and gets very annoying. But its not nearly as bad as you might think as well.
This is a great game for non competitive family members. You get a lot of time to sit around and enjoy each others company and chat about your day or week or whatever. And the game is easy to keep track of.

You have a piece and you go around the board once before you start buying 'spots' and you try not to land on anyone else's spot otherwise you owe them the money on their card.

This game is great for get togethers but then again... so is beer.

This is a classic. It's a great game to keep you and your friends or family busy for hours. Am I even joking? Nope. This game can take you hours depending on how you play it. It's a pretty fun game, though, and it even teaches you about how to manage money..well..to some degree. In any case, this seems like a staple in any household. Plus this is the classic version. Sure, you can find so many different special editions of this game out now, but c'mon now...the original. Go ahead and get it. If you decide to play..just be ready to put the time in.

Now come on who can do without a Monopoly game in their house....Have you checked it out now they have Dog monopoly, Junior Monopoly & many more. I can remember back in the day playing this with my brothers in the basement....all would go great for the first few hours, then some would get mad throw their horse, thimble, shoe, or whatever piece they had & say they quit. So the rest of us would keep playing & you know what I don't think we ever finished a whole game. Because it usually end up the next unhappy camper would throw what little money they had left & give the board a toss. I do have to say that the board is pretty sturdy, because ours suffered many tosses across the room, good quality! But, hey there were some memorable bonding experiences here.(LOL)

So while this game starts out fun, "I'm the iron...I'm the thimble!" about FOUR hours into it I think everyone starts to get tired and angry because there is no end in sight! This fun game about property value, jail and treasure chests starts off intriguing and makes you think, but it quickly becomes boring. If you are the kind who is into bargaining and trading for fun, you may like the game. But I think most people will think it is super boring after a while. Plus every time I played it, there is never a winner because it takes too long!

I have rarely experienced a completed game of Monopoly. I have played this game countless times ever since I was a kid, and I can recall that almost all games were stopped when it reached a point when one player or all players had no more additional houses to buy, or when all players would get sleepy or bored. Sure, Monopoly is fun at first, when there are lots of properties to buy. But when you already circled the board so many times, it gets boring easily. In my experience, we would all agree to stop the game and then calculate all our properties and cash at hand to determine the winner. That's not even how the game should end according to the official rules. Monopoly is still a good game though. It's a game that thrived and survived over the years.

Call me a crazy daisy, but I'm sooo not a Monopoly-type person. This game just seems to go on forever, and the paper money and little houses and properties you get to buy aren't enough incentive for me to stay interested in the game! I think I like this game in the first two minutes when you get to choose which game piece you'll get to have. Oh, the suspense of it all! After that, you've lost me!

In all fairness, a lot of people I know love Monopoly. It IS a classic after all. I'm just saying it how it is. What fun is it to go round and round AND ROUND the board for hours on end!? I don't think I've ever finished a single game of this without getting bored now that I think of it! I know, I'm a party pooper! =P

Monopoly what a game. Many nights we would stay up playing this game. I think everyone must have this game in their home. When the kids would have a snow day we would make hot chocolate and marshmallows and play for hours. We had a lot of fights and alot of fun.

Monopoly is the best board game there is. Me and my cousins used to stay up the whole night because we couldn't finish playing. Lots of people complain about this game being to long. It's One of my all time favorite board games and also it is one of the greatest board games of all time. It never gets old. Lots of fun and excitement for a whole family to enjoy or just a bunch of friends that want to hang out late and chill. When you get started with this game it gets very competitive. One of my friends cheated into a win. He started slipping in money from the bank because he was the banker. He began buying all the property and ended up winning before anyone else could buy anything. This game can get wild and aggressive. So when you play watch out for those cheaters.

Oh Monopoly Board, where have you been? I haven't seen you in ages. There's a reason for that and its called no time. I literally have no time to play monopoly anymore because the game takes literally hours and hours, which by then is only because you mortgage everything you had and decide to end the game win or lose.

Growing up in brooklyn I love playing Monopoly. I would some how convince my sisters to play even though they hated how long it was. When you grow up interest in the game suddenly go down.

I give credit to all the grandmas and mothers out there that play with their family!

You can find these online or at your local toys r us.

If you would have asked me 10 or more years ago, I would have said I loved Monopoly. Now to think back, we never even finished one game. EVER. Someone or everyone would get bored and we would just call it quits. That really sucks because I would like to say I have won a game or two. I guess I want a game that has an end sooner. This game seems to drag out entirely too long to keep me interested. It doesn't seem like they set the game up where it is really a fair shot. Once you get going good, you got the game after awhile. Some call it great, I call it boredom. I would play this every few years just for the heck of it, though. It might be a good game for children.

There are countless versions of the classic Monopoly nowadays. It seems as if whenever Hollywood makes a decent movie or a trilogy, a remake of Monopoly is called for. Well, you know what? It isn't. Nothing beats the original Monopoly. My strategy is to pick the car (because obviously the car gets around the fastest) and buy anything I land on. Yes, even Baltic and Mediterranean. My next strategy is to buy houses/hotels on any of the property I land on, even if I don't have money. I mortgage my property if I have to. Some might not think it's worth it but once somebody lands on your land with an entire neighborhood sprouting on it, you almost instantly win the game. Ah yes, I've won countless Monopoly matches with this strategy as I'm sure you will to if you imply it.
Anywho, Monopoly is hands down one of the best games you can play with a group of friends as a kid. Unless you're playing with super competitive kids that nerd rage and throw plastic houses/hotels at you when they land on your real estate. Good times.

this game is good for people who are great thinkers and planners, and bad for the average joe! i have NEVER finished a game of monopoly in a good mood (or even AT ALL) because it always seems as if one or two people get ahead, and it totally gets locked in that order from then on, like you can never get ahead. it just makes me so frustrated, and makes me want to hit someone! also, a single game can take a loooooooong time, so be prepared to have a lot of extra time.

everytime at a party someone brings it up to play, and i admit, i ALWAYS try. but i end up quitting an hour later, and then a few other people also think that's a good idea and everyone quits who was doing badly... mehhh

I think everyone has played monopoly at one point in time. It is a classic game that will probably be played for generations to come. I've played the different variations of the game that attempt to modernize it, but I always come back to the original.

The gameplay is pretty fun at first, but after the second hour it gets a little bit repetitive. Not to mention the fact that I'm extremely competitive and I don't think i've ever won a game of monopoly(not that i've really finished many games now that I think of it.)

It always sounds like a good idea "yeah let's play monopoly!"

in reality you probably won't finish it unless you start at about 10 am and dedicate the entire day to this monopoly game.

I don't think I've ever won at Monopoly, hence I am terribly bitter about it. I have invested years of playing time, and to what end? I always end up in jail. The only positive thing I can say about playing Monopoly is how cool the little metal hat is. I love that hat. I don't know why. The hat and the scottie dog. When the houses changed from wood to plastic, I kind of lost interest in Monopoly, but to make others happy, kept playing it anyway.

My favorite part about losing at Monopoly is the dying sensation as you're two spaces away from collecting a huge pile of money, only to see that huge pile of money go to someone who gets exactly the right roll. (My family played with the rule that all money from community chest would be put into the "just visiting" part of the jail space; I'm sure that I must have landed on that space once or twice, but I don't really remember).

I have long thought that I would be a much more self-assured person today if I had ever won at Monopoly. I think I probably would have done more with my life. I'd be president of a major corporation, if the universe had supported any capitalist tendencies this game encourages. The fact that my father, who WAS chairman of the board of a major international corporation, always won this game--and I mean ALWAYS--only reinforces this opinion.

My self-esteem hangs by a thread, largely due to this game. I continue to play it, hoping, in vain, to someday win once. I've been stuck with properties at Baltic Avenue for so long, I think their rundown exteriors are starting to look Euro-chic charming. I don't have the money for repairs. Will you loan me some? Could we do a deal behind everybody's backs? I promise to get the money back to you just as soon as I pass go, and collect my $200?!

This is one of the first board games I learned how to play, and once I got going, I played with a vengeance!

My cousins and I were really competitive when it came to monopoly. We played with all different rules, sometimes meaning that when you got snake eyes on a roll, the bank took ALL your money, or if you got two doubles in a row, you swept the bank. It soon became a game of dice, the monopoly squares providing a secondary backdrop to our thirst for that cold hard monopoly cash!

Aside from extreme, unabashed competitiveness, this game teaches you the value of property and accruing and selling property widely. As a pre-MBA about to work my ways towards a master's in business this fall, I see many real-life monopoly games in my future.

This is the only game I know of that has one hundred different specialty versions! My son has had ten different versions by himself and we have played them all periodically. He has had everything from the NASCAR edition to the Garfield edition. To me that just screams success. If everyone from the Boston Celtics to the Chicago Bears has their own version, then the game must be doing something right! In fact, Monopoly has been a family favorite since 1935 [its first year]. It is definitely one of our favorite games and if you don’t already own one of the hundred different editions… Go get one, I bet it will become one of yours!

This game will one day be the cause of an irrevocable rift in my family, because it always ends in one of the following ways:

1. Throw all properties in the air while shouting, "No! No! You're #@#%^^$$ cheating, grandma!"

2. Burst into tears. "Wh-wh-why would you b-bankrupt your only daughter? You don't love me! And I HATE YOU!!"

3. Any combination of the above, including shouting, swearing, throwing things (try getting knocked on the head with the World Series Trophy from Red Sox monopoly. Not fun) and my personal favorite, crying.

All in all, this is absolutely classic fun. Not only will your family enjoy it, but they will be defined by their Monopoly style. (My little brother steals, my older brother wins or gets VERY ANGRY when he loses, and my dad gets bored quickly.)

Best way to learn more about everyone you play with!

Everything I know about real estate I learned from Monopoly. This might explain why I still rent an apartment instead of owning half of the Sunset Strip, because I usually quit in frustration after 12 hours of game play. Seriously people, this game is looooong. However, it can be fun to play, provided you have the right opponents, and it's a refreshing change from most of the other board games, in that it relies on luck and skill in almost equal measure.

I wish I could offer winning tips, but since I never win I'll just say:
1. Make sure you choose an honest player to be the banker, or
2. Be the banker yourself so you can steal money with impunity
3. Keep the playing pieces in a ziploc bag and guard it with your life. Those things invariably wind up underneath the couch cushions and you're stuck using coins as playing pieces
4. "Community Chest" is really funny at 2am
5. Actually, most of Monopoly is funny at 2am

What's not to like about Monopoly, besides when games run into serious days'-long overtime and your brother or sister is getting drunk on power because he or she took Park Place and built hotels while you're hanging on to your title deed on Baltic? And you better trust the banker...

I love this game! It's fun for hours and combines luck of the dice with planning wits. Just as long as I don't have to be the boot... There are some newer versions of the game that feature cities like Los Angeles, but the original is still my favorite by far.

The Good:

One of the classic board games. More than a game, Monopoly enables fun for friends and family. You'll spend hours and hours playing this game.

The official rules aren't the only rules. There are many variations that let people customize the game play to their tastes. There are even “short” rules for quicker play sessions.

Kids can learn a little bit about property, mortgages, and money from this game.

Each player chooses a cool little piece/icon to represent themselves in the game. I'm partial to the top hat.

The Bad:

May cause an argument or two when someone lands on Boardwalk. Luxury tax can be rough.

Bottom Line:

Fun without the need for graphics processors.

So many rainy days I had fun playing this game. This was so much fun. Yea we had a few fights when we were kids over what "rules" to use. Put money on FREE PARKING or how many rolls you have to get outta jail. It was a good way to learn about money and negotiating with others. We sometimes would play the quick way by handing out random pieces of property at the start of the game. This would make the game fast and furious and your negotiating skills would be put to the test. If you havent tried Monopoly or just need to play it with some new friends .. Go ahead! What are you waiting for? Ohh and I call the Racecar as my token.

Monopoly is definitely one of my favourite board games out there. For some reason, I never seem to get sick of it! Basically, the goal of the game is to own as many properties (and houses and/or hotels) while bankrupting the other players. It’s a really simple concept to grasp for all ages (once you learn to add/subtract). Other than the original Monopoly, there are many versions out there now. For example, there’s ones for the NHL (or just an individual team), Disney, and cities! There are so many versions out there now, that you don’t have to stick to just the original. Depending on how you play this game, it may go on for hours and hours so some people tend to set a time limit like 3 hours. Otherwise, it can honestly go on for days!!! Despite it’s lengthiness at times, this game is still so much funnn!!!

Monopoly is a a very fun game that I actually I enjoy playing. This is because it doesn't make you use your brain that much unless you are really competitive. The point of the game is to get the most money by buying and selling the places you land on. Monopoly is a great game to play for any party if you guys are bored. Although it may be fun, it can get repetitive and times, so you have to have a way to spice up the game sometimes. Monopoly also can take a very long time for someone to go bankrupt so you may want to set a time limit then see who has the most money. Overall if you are looking for a decent game Monopoly is worth buying.
