I'll never forget my son crying while watching this movie. I wondered if he was possibly as empathetic and sensitive as I was, and I knew then that he was.

Anna Chlumsky stars as a girl living with her dad (Dan Aykroyd) and grandmother in the family-owned funeral home. That, and the fact that her mother died some time ago, has left her to be quite the hypochondriac, as she imagines she's getting nearly every disease that she hears of in the funeral home. Her best friend is Macaulay Culkin who really does have many illnesses, and the popular girls make fun of her for being friends with him. Jamie Lee Curtis, a beautician moves in and takes a job doing the makeup of the dearly departed.

What makes this movie so fascinating and fun to me is all the different relationships and how they affect everyone. Chlumsky has an ill-fated first kiss with best friend Culkin, she has an okay relationship with Curtis, until she starts dating Akyroyd, and she has a deep longing for one of her teachers, having her heart really broken when she finds out he's engaged ... to an adult. She is so hurting over the loss of her mom, and she just never seems to be able to come to terms with that.

My Girl is an all time classic, favorite movie for me. It takes place in a small town with a darling little girl named Veyda, her father, and a boy best friend that a girl could ever have. Her mother died when she was young so she didn't really have close girl friends.
Veyda's father runs a business at their home, beautifying the dead and having funerals in the main room. This movie is about a girl growing up without a mother. Starting your period, having that first teacher crush, and meeting your dad's new girlfriend who happens to now work with him. Its also about first experiences with your best guy friend, like that first kiss, running away and sadly death.
You WILL cry during this movie, its inevitable. This will forever be one of my favorite films.

When I was little and saw this movie I cried so hard. It's hard for me to watch it because I know it is just going to be so sad. I could also relate to the whole Jamie Lee Curtis relation to Anna Chlumsky because I know what it feels like to have someone try to replace someone close. I loved everyone's relationship to one another. I can never forget about the part with Macaulay Culkin and I had dreams about it for months... and every time I think about someone being allergic to bees it's the first that that comes to mind. It really is a beautiful movie.
