This is every parent's nightmare. Well, alright, parents have many nightmares, but this is one of the worst ones. Mel Gibson and Renee Russo star as the parents, and their son is abducted with apparent links to labor decisions Gibson has made as the head of a large airline, just to make him feel a little more guilty. The kidnappers demand $2 million for the safe return of his son.
This is where it gets interesting for me. Gibson originally sets out to pay the money, then after a few bungled attempts, changes his mind and turns it back on the kidnappers, really upsetting Russo. While one one hand, I'm thinking way to go, turn it back around on the kidnappers like that and beating them at their own game, I'm also thinking on the other hand as a parent that I would have been just as upset at Gibson as Russo for risking my son's life. That's what makes it a great thriller, as it just makes you think of all those different options.
