Keri Russell stars in this movie about an abused wife who works in a diner. She spends her time either dreaming up ways to leave her husband or making pies that are named after the feelings she doesn't know what else to do with. She gets pregnant and it only makes things worse as now her husband keeps a closer watch on her.

Yet, although the pregnancy at first makes her feel doomed, it actually ends up opening up her life to many more things. She has two best friends that work in the diner with her, and also begins a relationship with her doctor, but the person responsible for helping her sort out her problems is the crusty diner owner who oddly knows her better than she knows herself.

Sadly, the writer and costar of this film never got to see its success. She was murdered after the film was created. Being that she was pregnant herself when writing the movie, I think she learned a lot while pregnant and churned it all out into this movie. It's heartbreaking that she didn't live to see the success of either the film of her young daughter.

First of all, I'd like to thank the reviewers of this film. Because their great reviews led me to watch this film. And it was a STUNNING film! I was really surprised at how good of a film it was. It really broke me down and made me feel very emotional because I can relate to abusive relationships like that. Thankfully, unlike Jenna I never married anything like that.

All the other reviews talk about what the film is about fairly well; A broken housewife who's husband changed after marriage stuck in a dead end job trying to plan her escape while making ridiculously delicious pies. And I must say... every single pie she thought of / made sounded / looked absolutely delicious. I wanted to jump the screen and eat them myself. Each character played an important role through out this crazy, twisted film. Around each turn I was a little surprised up until the end. The ending seemed a bit... dull? predictable? But over all it was an amazing film. It really touched me in ways I couldn't explain even if I tried.

This was definitely a great film, and anyone who can sit through and stomach it... should.

I had a chance to see this for free when a friend gave me a pass. Instead I used the pass to see something else since I thought it was going to be a 'chick flick.' It wasn't until I saw it on the shelf at my local library I decided to give it a chance. Given the promotions and the way it was presented i thought it was going to be a comedy. It did have comedic moments but it was mostly pretty sad.

Keri Russell was great as the title character. She's stuck in a dead end job with a major league a**hole for a husband. Jeremy Sisto was so convincing I'd have to restrain myself from shattering his kneecaps should I meet him in person. Anyway, Keri Russell gets pregnant via her husband and instead of being excited she finds herself feeling even more trapped and lonely.

Her only means of expression is when she bakes pies. Pies that are SINFULLY delicious!! I really felt for her character and I think anyone could identify with the feelings of quiet desperation. We root for her and when she finally finds the guts to take charge and change her life you can't help but cheer. I'm glad I chose to watch this despite my initial reluctance.

I don't say this often, but "Waitress" really touched my heart. Keri Russell's character was so heartfelt and genuine, and Jeremy Sisto played a character so nasty that I don't think I can like him in real life anymore. Pathetic seeming Dr. Pomatter made me feel so guilty, but I'm so glad his story arc extended the way it did. Adrienne Shelley's last piece of work was so full of love. The supporting characters, such as the other waitresses and especially "Old Joe" rounded out the film nicely. Sure, "Waitress" may be a little cheesy, but it's a wonderful romantic comedy that I can't wait to watch again and again.
"Baby don't you cry, I'm gonna make a pie
Gonna make a pie with a heart in the middle,
Baby don't be blue, I'm gonna make for you
Gonna make a pie with a heart in the middle."
:-) How could you NOT love this movie?

Waitress is one of my favorite movies. My entire family loved it, and I'm sure yours will too. It's really funny, but also very sad. The whole thing just speaks so true, though, and you feel like you're watching a movie about someone you know personally. Keri Russell is amazing and beautiful, and the suffering she goes through with her awful husband just makes you hurt so much.

Russell is a waitress at a pie restaurant, and she makes the most amazing creations. The movie is worth watching for this reason alone- to see what she's making! But of course, it's worth watching for a million more. Her fellow waitresses are truly hilarious, and the whole movie is an adventure about finding yourself and following your dreams. A must-see!
